UPDATES ON MASSES IN SMC

WEEKEND MASSES

We will stop live-streaming the weekend masses after 1st October 2023. Normal weekend mass schedule is listed in the table below:

1. Updates on weekday masses & Schedule for Holy Week

1.1 There will be no mass in SMC from 18-19/3/2024 (Mon & Tues) as the parish priest will be away for clergy monthly recollection and Chrism mass.You may follow the Chrism mass virtually via Penang diocese's Youtube channel at 8.00pm on Monday (18/3/2024).

2. Caritas Penang Diocesan Lenten Campaign 2024

Caritas lenten campaign donation envelopes can be obtained from church at the entrances (next to collection boxes). Donations can be placed into the envelopes and returned to the parish after every weekend mass.Please ensure that your personal details are correctly filled in on the back of the envelope.

Reminder : Please send in your Lenten campaign donations through SMC by 24/3/2024, Palm Sunday.

Alternatively, you may remit payment electronically (via online banking) to Caritas Penang directly for the Lenten Campaign 2024 through their online form.

3. Are you curious about the Catholic Faith?

If you wish to know more about the Catholic faith or know of anyone interested to join the faith in SMC, do enquire at our parish office or from the RCIA facilitators at the contact numbers given here.

You could also learn more about the Catholic faith and the Church's teachings by following daily podcasts daily through the Catechism in a Year channel by Ascension Press.

Click on their YouTube channel to follow daily episodes for each paragraph of the catechism of the Catholic Church.

The podcast will be as follows :

  • introduction and prayer by the priest about the podcast;
  • the actual reading from the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) ;
  • followed by commentary about what is being read for the day.

4. About Formed

Formed.org is an excellent source of faith programmes,faith-based movies, documentaries and books, including literary classics. The Penang diocese has subscribed to it and access to these materials will be freely available to us for ONE YEAR upon registration. Sahabat Orang Asli

Outreach to the Orang Asli is through the Perak Deanery Orang Asli Apostolate (directly under the purview of Penang diocese) based in our parish via Sahabat Orang Asli group.


Padre Pio relic in SMC

Newcomers may be interested to know that we are the only church in Ipoh with a first-class relic of the Italian saint popularly known as Padre Pio. Click here to find out more about SMC's Padre Pio Group, which is a support group for those who are ill or suffering from terminal illnesses.

The Padre Pio novena is conducted at 5.30 p.m. every Thursday and on the 3rd Saturday of the month before the sunset mass. You may e-mail petitions and thanksgiving messages to padrepiosmc@gmail.com or click here to submit them using the online form.

VATICAN INSTRUCTIONS ON BURIAL AND CONSERVATION OF ASHES

The Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a new instruction on the burial of the dead and on the conservation of the ashes in cases of cremation, on 25th October 2016. Click here to read in detail about these instructions.

SMC RECYCLING PROJECT

You may bring your recyclable items to the recycle bin located next to the new columbarium opposite the Oak. Please separate the items according to the following categories - plastic / paper / tins / old clothes / electrical items. Please do NOT bring any items other than those within the categories stated. Please ensure the old clothes are properly packed in plastic to prevent them from getting wet.
