New guidelines concerning mass attendance from the Penang diocese dated 29th March 2023

WEEKEND MASSES & NOVENAS

LIFTING OF DISPENSATION TO ATTEND PHYSICAL MASS FROM PALM SUNDAY 2023

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Malaysia has issued a pastoral letter on the lifting of the dispensation from the obligation to attend physical mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligations. Click on the picture to read the dispensation (in pdf format) in full.


Sat English Mass at 6pm, Sun English Mass at 8.00am, Sun Chinese Mass at 10.30am

For those who are homebound due to illness, online masses on weekends can be followed via our SMC YouTube channel. Subscribe to our channel and click on the bell icon to receive notifications of any video updates.

The Padre Pio novena is conducted at 5.30pm every Thursday and on the 3rd Saturday of the month before the sunset mass. You may e-mail petitions and thanksgiving messages to padrepiosmc@gmail.com or click here to submit them using the online form.

RCIA programme in SMC

1. If you wish to know more about the Catholic faith or know of anyone interested to join the faith in SMC, click here.

You could also learn more about the Catholic faith and the Church's teachings by following daily podcasts throughout this year (1/1/2023 to 31/12/2023) in the Catechism in a Year channel by Ascension Press.

Click on their YouTube channel to follow daily episodes starting from 1/1/2023.

The podcast will be as follows :

  • introduction and prayer by the priest about the podcast;
  • the actual reading from the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) ;
  • followed by commentary about what is being read for the day.

2. Formed.org is an excellent source of faith programmes, movies, documentaries and books, including literary classics. The Penang diocese has subscribed to it and access to these materials will be freely available to us for ONE YEAR upon registration. Those wishing to contribute to outreach activities may check out SMC's Ministry to the Poor. Outreach to the Orang Asli is through the Perak Deanery Orang Asli Apostolate (directly under the purview of Penang diocese) based in our parish via Sahabat Orang Asli group.

Padre Pio relic in SMC

Newcomers may be interested to know that we are the only church in Ipoh with a first-class relic of the Italian saint popularly known as Padre Pio. VATICAN INSTRUCTIONS ON BURIAL AND CONSERVATION OF ASHES

The Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a new instruction on the burial of the dead and on the conservation of the ashes in cases of cremation, on 25th October 2016. Click here to read in detail about these instructions.

SMC RECYCLING PROJECT

You may bring your recyclable items to the recycle bin located next to the new columbarium opposite the Oak. Please separate the items according to the following categories - plastic / paper / tins / old clothes / electrical items. Please do NOT bring any items other than those within the categories stated. Please ensure the old clothes are properly packed in plastic to prevent them from getting wet.
